Results of the leave in conditioner (left) and lightly applied warm water (right) are about the same as the first experiment. (I did only one lock of hair for these)

First tests on curling actually straightened out as they day wore on. I expect the same with these.

So, you CAN curl the hair on glue wigs, but they aren’t permanent.

I think glue wigs would be great for beginners or collectors who may not have the money to afford a rooted doll wig, or are just not sure what they want for a wig but they really want their doll to have some hair. Like I mentioned before, at max I’d price these at $5 USD.

Hopefully this helped some of you out in deciding what you wanted in a doll wig, and helped you understand the limits on a glue wig.

Heat = bad

Curling = not permanent

Shedding =
Minimal if made correctly

Cost = cheap and you can make one yourself but it takes time for glue to properly dry

If you have any other Inquiries on glue wigs, just send me an ask!

And here are the morning results from last nights curling experiment!

The left wig was sprayed with synthetic hair spray, and that has a nice curl/wave going on.

The right wig was in cold water. The wave/curl is looser and may straighten over the course of the day, but we will see!

So far, you can curl these wigs without heat!

Next experiment: leave-in conditioner and warm water applied lightly.

So the tutorial I found was having you use conditioner on the hair and I felt unsure about it, but we will see that later.

These two are instead doing a hair-spray and cold water perm for testing. The right doll had the hair dampened with cold water and then rolled up to dry overnight, and the left is in a hair-spray roll. I’m using Revlon Finishing Spray for synthetic hair.

I will see the results tomorrow when they are dry.

The next test i’ll use a leave-in conditioner like the tutorial said. I was just iffy on it for the first test.

Glue wig care

My glue wigs properly styled and brushed out.

To style them I used a synthetic hair spray I bought at a beauty store (stuff is meant for things like human-sized wigs), and some cold water to wet the hair. The black wig on the right was a bit of a mess as it’s the recycled hair from a Cleo suffering from glue-head, but after some light brushing and a minor wash out with cold water and soap, it’s looking better.

When it comes to their care, you CANNOT do vigorous, hard brushing. It has to be light with a comb/doll brush. Otherwise you’re just going to rip the hair right out of the glue. No heat of any kind should be applied, or you’ll melt the glue.

DON’T SUBMERGE IN WATER. I haven’t done it, but I can just predict it’d be a bad idea. If you have a spray bottle, use that to dampen the hair. If not, take the ends of the hair and get them lightly wet in COLD water (I’m highlighting cold to be safe). You can add some mild soap if you like, but don’t get the base (wig cap) wet. It’d just be good practice, I don’t know if it would actually destroy a glue wig. Wash/rinse then lightly brush out.

Shedding is obvious with these. I think most wigs will shed a bit, but if it’s made right, it shouldn’t be losing clumps of hair.

STYLING

So far braids and pony tails are OK with these. Tomorrow I’ll do a test on curling. Boil-perm is obviously out, but I think I saw a tutorial on curling hair without heat a while back that I will check out for these.

Just putzing an idea around

I know glue wigs are kinda the “cheap” way to go on wigs, but would anyone have an interest in buying a glue wig?

In case you don’t know what I mean: Glue wigs are made by gluing the hair onto a wig-cap instead of rooting it in.

They’re cheap, easy, and pretty low maintenance wigs. I was thinking in the range of $5 USD for ‘em?

I know there are people who probably wouldn’t have the patience for them or are afraid they might fudge it up… Thinking like … a decent starter wig, perhaps?

Hmmm, let me know guys?

My second Cleo de Nile wig. Made from the recycled hair on a Gloom beach Cleo with the old tinsel picked out and new gold thread put in. There’s still some clean up and styling that needs to be done, but otherwise I’m happy!

For Sale $36!

Honestly, if you want to paint a creepy doll, just don’t paint in pupils.

(Re-painting a Cleo de Nile to have more “natural” makeup.)

Finished wig for Cleo! I love iiiittt! This one was made with brown silky yaki hair and metallic gold thread I found In Jo Ann Fabrics.

As you can see, I’ve got another Cleo lines up for a wig, but I don’t have enough of this hair! So, I’m going to recycle her rooted hair i scalped and pick out the ugly tinsel.
